Background
After three long yet rewarding years in the Valley, as graduation looms ever closer on the horizon, we hoped to spend our final days at Deerfield pursuing an Alternate Study to create a time capsule of the memories, emotions, and outlooks the students within the Class of ’23 have. The documentary and this website are the products of remember our formative years this desire to . We were inspired by programs such as Story Corp, and the 7 Up documentary series to guide our process.
In order to best preserve our class, we consulted oral historians, philosophy teachers, and creative directors for advice on our interviews, survey questions, and documentary format, respectively. One of our goals is to continue this study past graduation to track the way ideas have changed/developed. As such, we spent a vast portion of our time creating a rigorous, completely thought out study.
In an age dominated by hustle culture, we as students know how hard it is for us to find time in our lives to live in the moment, let alone record our feelings. We hope by creating this documentary, we can play our part in transcribing the ideas of our class for us to look back on at graduation and into the future.
